Team Biographies
Aiken Internal Medicine Associates is comprised exclusively of licensed, Board Certified internists well versed in attending to both outpatient and in-hospital patient care needs.
 
 
  • Dr. Besson is a lifelong resident of Aiken County.  He graduated valedictorian from Clemson University, where he received a bachelors of science degree in Microbiology.  He attended The University of South Carolina School of Medicine where he received his medical degree in 1989.  His internship and residency in Internal Medicine were completed at the Medical College of Georgia.  He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and has been licensed in both South Carolina and Georgia.  He served as Chief of Staff at Aiken Regional Medical Centers from 1996 to 1998 and has served on ARMC's Board of Governors.  He enjoys time with his family, athletics, and overseeing their family farm.
 
 
  • Dr. McCullough is originally from Knoxville, TN.  However, he moved to South Carolina in 1990 and now considers Aiken his home.  He is a 1999 graduate of South Aiken High School.  He then moved on to the College of Charleston where he graduated with a B.S. in Biology in 2003.  He obtained his M.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in 2008 and completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC in 2011.  He is currently Board Certified in Internal Medicine.  While he declined to pursue fellowship training, Dr. McCullough does maintain interest in Sports Medicine and helps take care of local high school athletes in his free time.  He is also the primary care physician for University of South Carolina Aiken athletes.  Outside of medicine, Dr. McCullough enjoys playing golf, seeing live music and spending time with his family. 
 
  • Dr. Zotovic received her medical degree from the Medical School at the University of Belgrade in Serbia, graduating in the top 1% of her class.  She completed residency training in Interal Medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan, NY, where she subsequently served as Chief Resident and became Board Certified in Internal Medicine in 1999.  Dr. Zotovic moved to Aiken in 1999 and joined Aiken Internal Medicine Associates.  Dr. Zotovic received her Ph.D. degree in Holistic Nutrition from Clayton College in Birmingham, AL in June of 2008.  Her dissertation was on the topic of high cholesterol treatment.  She enjoys reading, traveling and playing the piano.  She and her husband, Dr. Miroslav Zotovic, have four children and reside in Aiken.
 
  • Dr. Meyer was born in Ohio and grew up in both North and South Carolina.  He is a graduate of Clemson University and obtained his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina.  He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine in Richmond, VA.  He then did a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at MUSC.  He is currently Board Certified in Internal Medicine.  He has practiced medicine in Aiken for over thirty years.  He is married to Victoria Vann from Trenton, SC.  He has four children, all of whom live in Charlotte, NC.  Dr. Meyer enjoys golf, reading, yard work and spending time with his grandchildren.
 
  • Dr. Hesse is the most senior partner of Aiken Internal Medicine.  He earned his Bachelors Degree in Chemistry from Newberry College in 1968.  He graduated from Medical University of South Carolina in 1972.  He completed his internship and residency at Jacksonville Education Program under the certification of the University of Florida.  He was first Board Certified in Internal Medicine in 1975.  He became Board Certified in Geriatrics in 1990 and 2000.  Dr. Hesse placed the first temporary pacemaker, the first central venous catheter and performed the first flexible sigmoidoscopy in Aiken County.  He is an avid South Carolina Gamecock fan.  He counts tennis as one of his favorite hobbies and won the Houndslake Club Championship in 1983. 
 
  • Dr. Keisler is originally from Greenwood, South Carolina.  He received his undergraduate education from The Citadel in Charleston, graduating in 1970.  He then pursued his MD from The Medical University of South Carolina.  He completed his Internal Medicine Residency Training at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.  He received his specialty training in Gastroenterology at Letterman Army Medical Center in San Francisco, California.  He is Board Certified both in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.  His interests within the medial field include digestive health and physical fitness.  Dr. Keisler writes a column for The Aiken Standard appearing every other Monday that often incorporates everyday life and how it pertains to health and fitness.  In his time away from medicine, he enjoys bow hunting and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
